Made in Colorado Marketplace: Bringing Local Creativity to the Conference Floor

In a space defined by name tags, lanyards, and quick transitions between sessions, the Made in Colorado Marketplace set out to do something rare—make people pause.

Developed in partnership with Visit Denver, the program addressed a simple challenge: how can conferences at the Colorado Convention Center give attendees a genuine taste of the city without leaving the building?

Leveraging Fireside’s network of local creators built over six years of Denver events, we developed a marketplace that brought Colorado’s creative economy to the convention floor. What began as a simple idea became an experience that reshaped the conference environment—transforming space into a true sense of place.

Turning Foot Traffic into Connection
Most conference activations compete for fleeting attention as attendees rush between sessions and networking events. The Made in Colorado Marketplace broke that pattern by creating a destination rooted in local culture—inviting guests to slow down, explore, and connect.

For meeting planners, it increased dwell time and gave attendees something they genuinely valued: the chance to take home locally made gifts and goods. It also solved a frequent challenge—helping visitors experience the host city when time off-site is limited.

Designing for Makers and Momentum
Each marketplace is curated through Fireside’s community of small businesses and artists, tailored to fit each conference audience. Across two activations, the impact spoke for itself.

  • May Marketplace
12 vendors generated $20,041 in total sales, with every participant reporting new followers, sign-ups, or increased brand awareness.
  • September Marketplace
11 vendors generated $21,710 in total sales, with nearly all vendors reporting similar benefits.

Beyond revenue, the marketplace created an opportunity for small businesses to reach national audiences they rarely encounter—and for attendees to form a more personal connection with the city hosting their conference.

As one vendor shared: "It felt very accessible to us as a small business, and the time and energy we put in actually yielded results, which doesn’t always happen."
