Fireside at Five Presents:

Pride Education and Action 2020

‘IT TAKES A VILLAGE’

COMMUNITY | EQUALITY+EQUITY | INCLUSIVITY+DIVERSITY | ACTION

5-Part Series with:

The Center on Colfax

Fireside at Five hosted a five-part roundtable series with The Center on Colfax that focused on driving action and change through collaborative discussion with community members. This year, Pride month came at a critical moment. As we approached 51 years since the Stonewall Riots, we focused our efforts on amplifying voices within Black communities, especially our queer black folx. Now is the time to have educational conversations and bring people together to foster change, while focusing on intersectionality, as it relates to activism.

‘IT TAKES A VILLAGE’

Chat One

Description: This five-part series sponsored by The Center on Colfax examines the struggles from the Stonewall Riots that occurred in 1969 through the lens of the current Black Lives Matter (BLM) protests today. We are finding ourselves in a distinct and important political moment – this is an opportunity for our community to reorient ourselves towards what Pride was founded upon by re-centering and amplifying Black voices.

This chat series, hosted by Fireside at Five and in partnership with The Center on Colfax, will be a livestreamed panel focusing on the “It Takes a Village” Campaign. This campaign will encourage “call-in” culture, highlight Black and queer-owned businesses, and amplify the voices of underrepresented communities. The following Chats will center on four main pillars: community, inclusivity + equity, diversity, and action. Tune in and share around so we can bring together these movements and unite in our collective power.

This Fireside Chat is for: Any and all voices in Black and African American communities (business owners, organizations, creatives, etc)

Chat Two

Description: Going into June 2020, we expected Pride to be the biggest celebration we have ever seen. Although the current pandemic restricts us from gathering in the ways we had hoped, we are still able to celebrate the 51st anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising in an impactful and meaningful way. What does the Pride Movement mean to you? This chat will focus on education, resilience, equality, and equity. We believe that collaboration and allyship can be a vehicle for change for ‘Pride Summer’ 2020.

Chat Three

Description: This Chat brought you by The Center on Colfax addresses the global issues that the LGBTQ+ community faces in legislation and education. Additionally, we will discuss how to help foster equality and inclusivity where support is needed. To stop an epidemic of violence that disproportionately impacts trans women of color (who comprise approximately 4 in 5 of all anti-transgender homicides), we need to dismantle a culture of queerphobia and discrimination in all aspects of daily life (personal, professional, cultural, etc.).
